Maggie
came into my life in March of 1994. She was a 20 yr old 16.1 hands
thoroughbred mare who was loving and strong and a real smart aleck.
She enjoyed her sunset years as a warm, soft, furry 1200 pound pet and
loved her 2/3 acre corral. It was one of her favorite activities
to tease the dog from the other side of the chain link fence. She
left our lives on Valentine's Day, 1999, after a 3 week bout of colic due
to a 12" diameter intestinal stone. Unfortunately, it wasn't until
after her death that we knew the cause, and for three weeks she was cared
for with the most agressive of treatments possible by the most thoughtful
and loving equine veternarian: Dr. Kathy Day, Mobile Equine Clinic.
She was most kindly buried on her favorite hill overlooking the valley
by Dirt Adjusters, 1-800-947-DIRT.

Crazy
and sweet, Vibro
is a handful: neutered male Dalmation/Labrador. He is a black dalmation,
taking the dalmation body (though larger at about 70 lbs.) and hyper personality
of his mother -- though magically at 4 years of age, the calm strength
of labrador seems to be kicking in. (thank goodness!) Vibro was born
Nov 1992 and is now almost 7 yrs old. A dominant dog, he was a bit
of a handful when I first got him at 9 months old from a home that could
not handle him and pretty much let him go wild and aggressive. This
year he discovered the downside of the wild and active life of an athlete
-- he blew out both of his knees (anterior cruciate ruptured, don'tcha
know). After about 6 months of undiagnosed pain and limping, and
2 surgeries over a period of another 4 months, he is finally getting back
on his feet. Now that he is slowing down, he is much more sociable
and even enjoyed the LMSkunk
Works Flight Test picnic (I
figured most people could escape any possible threat from a 3-legged dog
-- it was only 1 week after his first knee surgery). He is a velcro-dog
seemingly permanently attached to me (aren't dogs pathetic?!). It's
a great responsibility to be worthy of such dedication and unconditional
love.

The
feline entry in the PesciFish household, Mojave
was
born a stray kitten May 1998. I have always loved cats, but living
in a rural area with coyotes and red-tailed hawk hunting my backyard, I
know it's dangerous for roaming pets such as cats. Also, I really
wasn't sure what the crazy Vibro dog would do with a little kitten.
When my boyfriend, Jared, brought his two kittens for a visit and Vibro
seemed 'ok', we went out and got Mojave during the 4th of July weekend.
She really can't decide what color to be: black, gray, white, brown, red,
orange...she has some fur that has nearly all those colors in one hair!
She has a few stripes, but mostly is a swirl of brown. When she crawls
on the desert sandy ground stalking a rabbit in the backyard, she blends
right into the desert floor, hence the name: Mojave. She seems to
be cautious and confident enough to take care of herself and, like the
good little girl that she is, she makes sure she is home every night so
that I can lock the pet door and keep her safe inside. Mojave simply
ADORES
Vibro,
and although he is top dog, she tries to tease him into some good kitty
games in the backyard, or living room, or on the bed. There's nothing
like the reverberating sound of a cat's purr as her head is totally engulfed
by a large dog's cavernous mouth at 2 am!

Ah...my
best buddy and lifelong pal. Flutter was
hatched May 1990. She is an amazon parrot mix (bluefront and double
yellowhead). She is intelligent, funny and a great companion and her favorite
pasttimes are teasing the dog and watching the wildlife out the patio door.
(did you notice: everyone likes to tease Vibro!) She seems to be
handling the dog and cat shenanigans without jealousy or rancor.
To her, we are all members of her flock. Luckily, I was able to bring
her home while she was still a chick of 6 weeks old. I handfed her
until she was weaned and was able to establish myself as Head of the Flock.
At 9 years old, she is just barely a young adult and very active and a
real playhound. It's been hard this year to give her the attention
she deserves with the new kitten last summer, Maggie's long illness and
death and then Vibro's seemingly endless surgeries and recoveries.
But I try and we NEVER skip 'birdie playtime' every morning on the kitchen
window sill while I prepare her breakfast.
